Meet Shaun Elliott! 👋

My name is Shaun Elliott, the creator behind @somdtanks. Based in Southern Maryland, I am an enthusiast and digital educator dedicated to the art of small-scale aquascaping. My expertise lies in the design and maintenance of freshwater and saltwater nano-aquariums. Since establishing my first tank at age five, I have dedicated nearly five decades in constantly learning the hobby, ultimately positioning myself as a leading resource for pico and nano-reef enthusiasts worldwide.

About Shaun's setups

Shaun specializes in high-impact, small-format aquascapes characterized by a signature 'open-top' natural aesthetic. His freshwater designs frequently feature emergent rockwork and driftwood that break the waterline, blurring the boundary between aquatic and terrestrial environments. In the saltwater space, he curates diverse mixed-reef systems that integrate anemones with a balanced selection of SPS, LPS, and soft corals. Across all of his work, he prioritizes dramatic contrast to create vibrant focal points and dynamic lighting effects.
