Meet Jannik! 👋

Hi! I'm Jannik, born in '99, living in Germany, and I've been in this hobby for as long as I can remember. It all started when my dad bought me my first tank when I was around three years old, and I've been into it ever since. I like to keep the natural look. I prefer to keep the tank looking natural with less plastic and more plants. I also love taking pictures of my results as a second hobby.

Jannik's Story

2004

My First Aquarium

It all started when my dad bought me my first freshwater aquarium when I was around three years old.
2018

Freshwater aquariums

After finishing school, I dove deeper into freshwater aquariums just as modern LEDs and aquascaping were taking off. Within a year, I was running about 17 tanks.
2019

My first reef tank

In 2019, I started my first saltwater tank: an old Red Sea all-in-one model. I quickly changed that to a bigger one.
2021

Back to freshwater

After moving out of home, I took a break from saltwater and went back to shrimp breeding and aquascaping. Once I had my own flat, I had over 12 tanks with critters.
2023

My new reef tank

In 2023 I set up a new reef tank. The aquarium is based on a Nyos Opus 440, a system that combines modern design with a well-thought-out technical layout.

Upgrading

At the end of 2025, I upgraded the lighting to the Dalua X4 after months of thinking about it, and I don't regret it. The tank is now almost three years old.

About Jannik's setup

He uses 4 Illumagic X4 lights supported by Vitamini LED bars to really fine-tune the spectrum. Together they create a wide, even spread of light with strong fluorescence and great color pop. The goal isn’t extreme intensity, but a balanced, stable light field that keeps corals happy long term.

Because the tank is heavily LPS-dominated — especially Euphyllia — Jannik focus is on moderate PAR and consistent output rather than chasing maximum brightness. Stability makes a huge difference in tissue health, extension, and overall coloration.

In the end, the lighting setup is all about balance: strong growth, vibrant colors, and long-term stability without stressing the corals.

Dimensions | 49×22×22 inches or 125×55×55 centimeters

Filtration | Filtration is handled by a Deltec 1000i skimmer, activated carbon, UV-C, ozone, and a small refugium, all working together to keep the water crystal clear and biologically stable.

Dosing | Dosing is fully automated using a dosing system to maintain stable major and trace element levels tailored to the reef’s high LPS demand.
